Welcome to Module #3 - The POWER Chakra

Our Power Chakra is the home of our gut feelings. It is here that we house the power for transformation. This is the home of our inner fire. On a physical level, this is the area of the body where we digest the food we eat into the nourishment that fuels us and allows us to be who we are.

Our individuation is a huge theme here. We are able to connect to our personal truth when we hold confidence in who we are and are proud of all we are. This truth defines our uniqueness and invites us to carve our own path. When we step onto the path to our truth, the power of this chakra gives us strength to persist.

As you connect to this chakra, it’s important to acknowledge the ego. There is a difference between our limiting ego (which can be controlling, dominating or egocentric) and our unlimited ego (which allows us to step into all we are with pride and confidence). Without a solid foundation of trust and good emotional security and feelings of worthiness (developed in lower 2 chakras), it is difficult to develop a sense of personal power without themes of control and/or domination surfacing. We can develop anxiety and fear when we feel a loss of power (i.e. work stress or imbalances in relationships) and unhealthy attachments to people, things and environments is a common default behaviour that originates in this energy space.

It is here that we interpret what happens in life and how clear our thinking is. Our power center really determines what we see as we relate to the world (not necessarily what is). How we think, plan, and follow through impacts our life – our thoughts truly do create our reality – and this comes to life here. Our rational mind can be tricky or supportive. Awareness around how well you are connecting to your gut feelings and instincts is an important part of understanding how “mature”, supportive and/or clear our thinking is.

We awaken our 3rd chakra by developing a healthy self-confidence – a brilliant way to do this is ensuring we have a solid leaping point via our work in the lower chakras and by connecting with and living our true path. So, as you start your work in this chakra, incorporate any and all of the practices from the lower chakras that your gut tells you to.

POWER CHAKRA JOURNALING EXERCISES:

I have given you a choice here, so please pick and choose which exercises resonate the most for you right now – and know the others will always be here for you to come back too.

1) Write a list of all the things that make you awesome, unique, and amazing. If you’re stumped by this, begin by thinking what others would say about you. This exercise pairs nicely with exercise #1 of “Additional Tips and Tools”.

2) Write a BRAG list (at least 10 things). What are you proud? Think about things you’ve accomplished, situations you’ve dealt with well, and gifts you have brought to your friends, family and this world. (note: exercise #4 of “Additional Tips and Tools” would be a great pairing with this)

3) Do you feel the choices you make in life allow you to feel fulfilled? Do your actions support you?

4) How clearly do you feel you interpret what happens in your life? Knowing that our thoughts create our reality, do you think you accurately see and interpret your reality? It’s common for us to create “stories” (based on our feelings of adequacy and security – themes of lower chakras). How often do you think the stories you create take your sense of personal power away?

ADDITIONAL TIPS AND TOOLS FOR THE POWER CHAKRA:

I have given you choice so you can pick and choose as you wish and engage in what resonates most.

1) Send an email to 5 to 10 friends, family and/or co-workers saying you are doing a course and have an assignment to email people you respect and care about to ask them to share a sentence or two to describe YOU. This is a really special exercise because it takes some courage to press send AND offers some beautiful gifts in return – I strongly encourage you to give this a try!!

2) Practice the “Power Stance”. There is a brilliant ted talk by Amy Cuddy on how our body language shapes who we are. Check it out by clicking here. The Power Stance is practiced by standing tall with our feet at least hip width apart, our arms down by our sides just way from our body, with our palms facing forward. If you tune into Amy’s talk you will learn how practicing this for at least 2 minutes can dramatically change how we feel about ourselves. I encourage you to practice this daily for a week.

3) Look in the mirror daily and repeat “I am proud and confident” and/or any other mantras/affirmations that you are working with. This practice is a super powerful way to increase the potency of engaging in these intentions.

4) Start a BRAG, GRATITUDE AND DESIRE practice with your journal. Simply state a brag – something you’re proud of or something that makes you awesome, a gratitude – something you’re grateful for, and a desire – something you desire, dream of, want. EVEN BETTER: engage your family/kids and or a close friend/partner to share this practice with you on a daily basis or within a routine that feels realistic (it’s a beautiful way to begin a meal or end the day).

I have given you a choice here. Pick one or two that resonate most with you – this may change and evolve over time. Once you connect to what resonates most, repeat it (or them) 3 times at least once per day!
